My parents, Berta and Salim Soferm emigrated from Iraq in 1951. They lived on 9 HaMalben street in Givatayim. In the spring of 1952, my mother gave birth to my sister in the Dajani Hospital in Jaffa. A few weeks after birth, while my mother was breastfeeding, the girl suddenly looked a little different, and my father and my grandmother took her to Beilinson Hospital where they were told to leave her. The next day my father arrived again and was told she had died.
My parents wanted to bury her but they were not given the child to bury. And as if that were not enough, a few years later, my parents got a notice to enroll her in first grade at Gordon School in Givatayim.
