Riva and Baruch Sandler are South Africans who arrived in Israel and settled in Beit Yanai. Their eldest daughter, Ilana, was born on June 27th, 1951, in the old maternity hospital in Hadera. People took the baby, who seemed healthy, from the mother, claiming that she wasn't feeling well, and two days later they received the message (without a body or an explanation) that the daughter had died, and they were told to go home. After the heartbreak, the mother gave birth to her second son in South Africa and later the family returned to Israel.
