Saida and Yechiel Jaber

Testimony of Dina Hajaj, daughter of Saida and Yechiel:

My parents, Saida and Yechiel Jabber, made Aliyah from Yemen in 1949. In the beginning the arrived at Atlit, and later moved to Kiryat Ekron.

I arrived together with them, with my two sisters and my brother. The abducted brother, and another baby brother, were born in Israel.

On October 12th, 1954 my mother gave birth at Kaplan Hospital. Exactly in the same day and in the same hospital, with a few hours’ difference, a family member of ours also gave birth. Later I went to her to get more details on my brother’s disappearance.

My mother gave birth to a heathy baby boy in a natural birth. She saw the child after the birth and he was just fine. A few hours later she asked why they weren’t bringing her the baby because she wanted to nurse him. Then they told her the child was dead.

What, dead? Where is he?

We buried him, they replied.

My mother never accepted it and never came to terms with it. She saw the child after she gave birth and he was healthy and fine.

I began looking into the matter only several years later, after the media had begun covering the Affair. Then I started having doubts and realized it may be that the child was abducted. I came across many more testimonies of families who had their children abducted and received humiliating treatment. It breaks my heart.

As part of my searches, I went to my relative who gave birth with mom at Kaplan on that same day, I gave DNA samples and I came to you, to Amram. I am the representative of the family in anything to do with the search, and my sisters gave me their blessings.

I am still searching for my brother among people I see. I try to find similarities to the family.
