Saida and Yichia Shuval

I was born in Yemen, I arrived at the Atlit transit camp with my parents Saida and Yahya. From there we moved tot Even Yehuda, we lived in a shack.

It happened in 1952, father was not a member of the Histadrut,[Labour Union], so mother gave birth at home to the twins, Shalty and Zadaka, a boy and a girl. I was the midwife, at the age of 12, and she cut the umbilical cord. I remember their faces like in a dream.

After six or seven months, they didn't feel well, they had diarrhea I think. We admitted them to the hospital in Pardesiya. After two weeks, a telegram arrived from the hospital, announcing the death of the son, Shalty. After a month, [announcing the death] of the daughter Zadaka. There was no death certificate and no body.

Years later we went to the investigation Committee in Jerusalem, they told us the section and lot of a grave in Kiryat Shaul, we went and searched and didn't find the grave.
