Elka and Israel (Slavka) Potterman

My name is Miryam Gabai, currently living in Israel with my husband Pinchas, after a 45 years stay in the US.

My Father passed away five years ago. My mother, thank God, is still with us and still lives in the US.

I am writing briefly what happened to my mother in the summer of 1950.

According to her, she gave birth to a healthy and perfect son and she also heard his crying voice. This happened in the hospital in Tsriffin.

After the birth, the nurses claimed that the baby must undergo some tests and that is why they did not bring the baby for breastfeeding.

Two days later, they told my parents, that the baby passed away, without allowing them to see him.

My parents were young and naïve, and on top of all, they were new immigrants from Russia, so for them, that was the end of the story and they did not search further for answers, regarding the fate of their son.

After I returned to Israel and I read many articles about the Yemenite children, i knew and I am convinced, that what happened to my mother is exactly what happened to the Yemenite children.

My Mother is no longer young, but if her first born son is still out there, it will be the greatest joy of my mother’s life, to have that closure .
